Easy to Use
Once the samples are punched and the plates are loaded, the instrument fully automates all steps, making it easy to operate and requiring minimal maintenance.
Each day, more than 100,000 newborns worldwide are screened for metabolic, endocrine, and genetic disorders. While hemoglobin screening has a long-standing history in some countries, such as the USA, France and the UK, it has only recently been incorporated into newborn screening programs in others, including Portugal, Germany, and Australia.
The rising prevalence of hemoglobin disorders in regions where they were previously uncommon has increased awareness of the need for newborn screening.
Early detection has been shown to improve the lives of babies by enabling timely treatment and appropriate follow-up care.
The CAPI 3 NEONAT Hb kit is intended for the detection of normal hemoglobins (F and A) and abnormal hemoglobins (S, C, E, D and Bart’s) in blood from human newborn collected on filter paper. This qualitative analysis is performed by Capillary Electrophoresis with the CAPILLARYS 3 DBS automated instrument. The test result must be interpreted in conjunction with other biological and clinical findings.
Once the samples are punched and the plates are loaded, the instrument fully automates all steps, making it easy to operate and requiring minimal maintenance.
Between one and eight full 96-well microplates can be processed in a single run, with a throughput of 74 tests per hour. Load-and-go workflow improves efficiency and reduces hands-on time.
From sample punching with an automatic puncher to the export of results from the CE instrument software, patient information is automatically transferred via the sample's barcode, eliminating the risk of manual errors during ID entry.
Thanks to the high-resolution hemoglobin separation provided by the Sebia CAPILLARYS 3 DBS device, the instrument produces a clear profile that facilitates the identification of abnormal hemoglobin variants (Hb S, C, D, E, etc.) as well as thalassemia-related abnormalities such as Hb H and Hb Bart’s.
The software automatically classifies samples using a color-coding system to distinguish between normal or abnormal results, allowing laboratories to quickly identify pathological findings while quickly releasing non-pathological samples.
Dried neonatal blood spots are punched (standard size of 3.2 mm), eluted in distilled water, and directly analysed using the CAPILLARYS 3 DBS instrument.
